APV Winter Conference 2024: ODx and MBx – orodispersible and mucoadhesive buccal formulations

Objectives

Since orodispersible (ODx) and mucoadhesive buccal (MBx) drug formulations have been introduced to the pharmaceutical market these special dosage forms have been continuously evolved both in academia and industry. APV have addressed the topic quite early in the year 2013 and continued with the winter conference 2015 in Innsbruck where a systematic terminology and the abbreviations have been introduced and jointly agreed upon which are nowadays commonly used around the globe by scientists, pharmaceutical companies and even competent authorities. After the last APV winter conference on this topic back in 2016 it is now time to convene again to commonly reflect on advanced technologies, materials, new drug products on the market and future opportunities. An overview of these dosage forms will be followed by presentations from distinguished speakers and thorough discussions on recent advances for both newcomers in this area and experts who will jointly learn and discuss about benefits of new grades of excipients, manufacturing and processes in different settings as well as biopharmaceutical and clinical considerations for ODx & MBx.
